Elk Grove’s Ebert Raises $3,676 At Parkinson’s Benefit.
Emily Ebert grew up watching her grandfather’s Parkinson’s disease progress, slowly robbing him of the ability to control movement in his body. Tremors are the most common symptom. Gradually, he was unable to walk, safely operate a car, and lead an independent lifestyle.
“Immediately, when he found out, he retired,” said Ebert, of her grandfather, podiatrist Robert Nigro, who had a practice in Oak Park. “He didn’t want to risk anything with his patients.” She recalled him driving through a snowstorm, his office closed because of the weather, to meet a patient he was unable to notify.
